April 12th 2010 ~ "the practice of undeclared pork and beef
protein injection in poultry"
Muslim concern about the authenticity of
meat labelled as halal, particularly in KFC products aimed at the Muslim
community in Britain, has revealed that the practice of deliberately injecting
hydrolysed pork and beef proteins into chicken, a practice discovered in
2001/2003 studies by the Food Standards Agency, is still continuing. Such
chicken preparations are supplied mainly to catering facilities. The FSA
advised
consumers eating food from a restaurant or takeaway that they "should ask
if the chicken contains hydrolysed animal proteins". Restaurants and catering
establishments will have this information available to them as it will be on the
ingredients list of the products they buy
