Important Announcement
Respected Readers,
Assalamu Alaikum WaRahamatullah
As you are aware,
the Moon Sighting Committee (CMSCGB) had announced that the first of Muharram
1430h began on the eve of 27th December 2008 and the day of Aa’shurah was on
Tuesday 6th December 2008. Our announcement was made in conjunction with
the Majlise Qadha Al-A’la in Saudi Arabia. It was upon this announcement
that we published the dates in our monthly newsletter and on our website at
www.hizbululama.org.uk. We also included the article in ‘Al-Jazeera
Riyadh’ (see above) which officially confirmed the announcement made by the
Mufti Al-Azam of Saudi Arabia, Shaikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Aa’le
Shaikh.
We regret the unfortunate lies and propaganda from some people
who want us to base our announcements on scientific calculations. They
hoped to create a similar controversy to the one they instigated last year for
Muharram & Aa’shurah 1429. (For more info go to www.hizbululama.org.uk). We ask Allah to bless our efforts to abide
by the Shariah. Ameen.
Remember!
Rather than use the English
Gregorian calendar, which evolved from Roman and Christian sources, Saudi Arabia
have established and use their own annual Islamic Calendar called the ‘Umm al
Qurra’. It has Islamic names and references and is used for administrative
purposes only. Their intention is to protect the distinctness of Islamic
identity and to give a viable alternative for Islamic countries to use.
During the months of ceremony and worship, it is the Majlis al Qada al A’la, the
Saudi Supreme Court which declares its decision according to the
Shariah.
